Session 5

Well, Well, Well, What Have We Here?

After a long rest, the Party returned to the catacombs and (finally) investigated the last room. It was a cathedral of sorts, with a magical pool in the back that Rainstorm, thanks to her extensive reading, identified as a Minor Runewell of Wrath. This was the source of magical malice, the “very bad magic,” Chaka detected the day before. Rainstorm explained that a blood offering would summon a sinspawn from the Runewell, and this one in particular looked to have about one use left.

Without skipping a beat, Jyn cut his hand, dripped some blood into the Runewell, and summoned a sinspawn on the spot. The surprise combat round took us all off guard, but Jyn uber-crit the thing to death. Big scare, little threat, and the bonus XP for rendering the Runewell useless was a nice plus.

Thanks to some scouting done by the Elf Ranger, the Party narrowed down where the goblins were coming from: an old fortress in the middle of a nearby lake. Jyn noticed that little orphan Draco had literally nothing to his name other than what he picked up on their adventures, so he used his precious coins to buy him some new armor and gear. Draco’s original longspear was then mounted in the inn’s dining hall to commemorate his part in saving the Innkeeper.

The party made their way through a hidden tunnel network, taking down goblins along the way. At one point, they came across a kennel for goblin dogs. Chaka, using Speak to Animals, convinced them to not attack if the Party let them go. Eventually, they came to a wooden bridge that led to the goblin’s island fortress. Of course, it was rigged to drop if a certain amount of weight was placed on it. Thankfully, the Party avoided falling and shimmied their way across the remaining ropes.

Next stop: Goblin HQ.
